Capacity and Frequency Planning
The
frequency plan for an AMPS, TDMA, or GSM system plays a specific role
in determining the maximum per site capacity.
In the chart, as we increase our frequency re-use by lowering the K value,
we gain more capacity in terms of Calls/Channel and Customers/Cell. We
pay the price in terms of a lower C/I Carrier/Interference ratio) - higher
system interference.
Or if we devise a system that operates at a lower required C/I
ratio (allowing more interference), we can get more system capacity.
Thus, the service provider's per call cost would be lower, making it
more competitive and profitable.
